Welcome to the 23rd edition of DIPCON
With more than twenty successful editions held around the world, IWA DIPCON has served as a vital platform for fostering international cooperation among researchers, policy makers, water sector professionals, and representatives from both academia and industry — to share knowledge and develop integrated strategies to address global water challenges.
DIPCON at the heart of Europe
Following DIPCON 2025 in Antofagasta, Chile, which provided a unique backdrop to discuss water sustainability in one of the world’s driest regions, we are pleased to announce that the 23rd IWA International Conference on Diffuse Pollution and Eutrophication (DIPCON 2026) will be held in Vienna, Austria, from November 24 – 27, 2026. Vienna, a city celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and located on the banks of the Danube, the world’s most international river and the second-longest in Europe. Not only does it flow through a world cultural heritage, but it also glides majestically between vineyards, breaks through rock massifs and offers plenty of variety. Did you know that the Danube is one of the most sung-about and musically iconic rivers in Europe?
DIPCON at TU Wien
The conference is organised and hosted by the Institute of Water Quality and Resource Management of TU Wien, Austria’s largest research and educational institution in the field of technology and natural sciences with more than 26,000 students and more than 4,000 researchers. This scientific conference focuses on advancing knowledge and solutions for diffuse water pollution across freshwater and coastal systems. Bringing together research on legacy and emerging contaminants, nutrient emissions, urban and agricultural pressures, and eutrophication, it highlights innovative monitoring, modelling, and management approaches. Emphasizing nature-based solutions, large river basin and coastal-scale strategies, and the interconnections between pollution, biodiversity, climate change, and water scarcity, the programme aims to foster integrated, science-based responses to today’s most pressing water quality challenges.
